Markus Thomas Theodor Söder is a German politician who has served as Minister-President of Bavaria since 2018 and leader of the Christian Social Union in Bavaria (CSU) since 2019. Born in Nuremberg, he completed compulsory military service before studying law at the University of Erlangen–Nuremberg. He earned his doctorate in law in 1998 with a dissertation on Bavarian municipal legal history.
