The Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) is a public research university based in Trondheim, Norway, with regional campuses in Gjøvik and Ålesund. Formed in 1996 by merging six institutions, it inherits the legacy of the Norwegian Institute of Technology (1910) and earlier academic societies dating back to 1760. NTNU holds the main national responsibility for engineering, technology, and broader scientific education, employing about 9,000 staff and serving roughly 42,000 students.
